Cornwall’s coffee community of artisan roasters and independent shops is ever-growing, and with our love for keeping it local and for rich brews, we’re happy to be spoilt for choice when it comes to own brands to choose from.
We’ve curated a shortlist of our very favourite Cornish coffee roasters and where to sample their unique blends, so you can find the best coffee in Cornwall, as picked by the Cornish Holiday Cottages team.
It is hard to put your finger on what actually makes the best coffee, it’s something that is down to preference. It’s all a matter of taste and essentially subjective but these coffee blenders are all exceptionally reliable, sustainable and passionate about exceeding expectations.
Yallah, meaning ‘Let’s go’ in Arabic began with a restored 1950’s roaster, a leaky barn, and a goal to build a sustainably focused business. Based at Argal Home Farm and powered by solar, heated with biomass, and celebrating a zero-landfill policy, Yallah’s vision to remain environmentally conscious is clear.
From their House Coffee with toffee notes and a silky finish to their Suke Quto blend with honey and bergamot tones, all of their coffee is high grade, sustainably sourced and very tasty.
Their harbourside café and kiosk in St Ives is a must-visit and you can buy bags of their coffee directly from their Falmouth roastery throughout the week.
If you’re looking to learn more about the art of coffee they also run a number of latte art and home brewing classes which run on various dates throughout the year.
2. Ol Factory
Hidden away in a converted brewery on the outskirts of Penryn, close to Falmouth, you’ll discover Olfactory Coffee Roasters, a specialist and aromatic micro-roastery.
Set up in 2013 by Angel Parushev, the Old Brewery was transformed into a smart micro-roastery, and the first Olfactory coffee beans were roasted on 21 April 2014.
For all those who haven’t sampled a sip of Olfactory’s liquid gold, each cup is a well-rounded balance between sweet and acidic, an easy-to-drink coffee that takes your pallet on a journey.
With meticulous craftsmanship and obsessive attention to detail, they strive to deliver ethically sourced, skilfully roasted, delectable coffees to the world, and actively contribute to the speciality coffee culture in Cornwall.
Olfactory Coffee Roasters take pride in an open-door policy to the roastery, welcoming anybody wishing to find out more about the craft of roasting speciality coffee. You can sample their unique blends in local spaces such as Bangos Kitchen, Espressini and Rolling Joe Coffee
3. Origin
Founded in 2004 by Tom Sobey Origin Coffee is an independently owned speciality coffee roaster that is bound by one central ethos; to source exceptional coffee through a sustainable, triple bottom line approach.
They believe that bringing out the best of each coffee bean is as much about harnessing senses, as it is using the best engineering and equipment. They pour their all into both, to create a cup that will exceed expectations.
Harbour Head in the idyllic fishing town of Porthleven is the perfect place to sample their monthly, single-origin feature coffees and enjoy maritime views.
The Warehouse, Penryn is a relaxing and well-designed space that provides a calming environment to savour a cup with a vibrant breakfast or lunch, sourced fresh from local producers.
