Summary

Set within leafy winding lanes, just under a mile from the coastline and the beaches of the Helford River, Diddy Penpol is a rural idyll with adventure right on its doorstep. Revitalise your senses with activity, find inspiration from the local gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan, or simply languish in the garden here. Diddy Penpol provides an ideal rural retreat for those dreaming of a slice of natural Cornish countryside.

Situated at the end of a country lane, the cottage was restored lovingly by its owners, who live in the adjoining house. You’ll feel right at home hunkering down into the comfortable country furnishings, with many a pleasant dream to be had from the three snug bedrooms nestled within the eaves. There’s even a four-poster bed for princes and princesses to sink into.

Keep your boots by the door, ready to tackle the coastal paths around the Helford River. Wander through tree lined lanes to the dog-friendly Grebe beach and on to the timeless waterside hamlet of Durgan, and see if your little ones can keep count of butterflies and wildflowers in the hedgerows along the way. After exploring, spend your evenings dining al-fresco at the top of the garden, watching as the sun fades over rolling hills and fields, and savour the smell of the evergreens as laughter from your party lingers long after the light has faded.

The land along this part of the Helford River is managed by the National Trust, so dogs, children and grown-ups alike are free to roam in the meadows and woodlands, that lie just a fifteen-minute walk from Diddy Penpol.

The gardens of Glendurgan and Trebah are also easily reached by foot, where Jurassic ferns, water lilies, and forests of bamboo await. Trebah is a dog-friendly venue with a full calendar of events, including open air live performances in the amphitheatre.

The pretty village of Mawnan Smith has a café, a restaurant, and a 16th century thatched inn at its heart. You’ll find all the essentials in the village, and a fifteen-minute car ride into Falmouth places you within reach of everything you could possibly need – from supermarkets to independent coffee houses, to art galleries and passenger ferries.

For a delicious lunch experience like no other, walk to the Helford River, to dine on the creekside at Port Navas Yacht Club. Be sure to book ahead though, as it’s small and very popular.
