Stithians Lake

Surrounded by farmland and moorland, Stithians is the largest inland waters in west Cornwall and is reputed to be one of the windiest in England.

It’s not surprising that the lake is a favourite with windsurfers and surfers alike. Get out on the water and take part in a variety of activities including stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and trout surfing. Rainbow and brown trout are stocked throughout the season (min-March to mid-November), with fly fishing permits available from the permit hut on site. Hire a boat to fish from the middle of the lake or set up on the bank for the day.

Visitors can hire out equipment, launch their own or learn something new with one of their qualified instructors.

For those looking for a leisurely ramble, walkers can enjoy the uninterrupted views across the lake. Venture along the 5-mile circular route through the meadows, wet woodland and heathland. Avid bird watchers will also find joy here – the countryside hums with wildlife, and there are numerous bird hides dotted around the site.

Combine a trip to the lake with a visit to the Wild Vibes Cafe; a plant-based, all-day brunch spot that promises to renourish and recharge after an active few hours on or around the lake.

Located in the heart of Cornwall’s iconic mining landscape, Stithians Lake is a striking setting for your next family, group, couple or solo adventure.
