Location and Surrounding Area
Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and bordering land maintained and preserved by the National Trust, Garden Wing is positioned for idyllic stays in a quiet and unspoilt corner of Cornwall. The Helford River, famous for its coastal walks and inspired literary heritage, is a short walk from the house, down through picturesque pathways. You’ll find quiet beaches and safe sheltered waters tailormade for swimming and sailing.
Venture out through the pasture and woodland that surrounds the sleepy parish of Mawnan, looking out for signs of its almost fairytale past – like the famous pirate gravestone in the churchyard. The clues of a history of smuggling and spying can be found here and there, so let their imaginations spark and bring thrill to your children.

Nearby, the subtropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan delight visitors with their exotic plant collections’ displays of botanical beauty. Hire a boat from Helford Passage for a day on the water or take a horse for a hack from Bosvathick Riding Stables. Here your options are endless, and always unforgettable. Mawnan Smith village, just over a mile away, has shops, a Post Office, a café, a restaurant, and a thatched country pub. Foodies must visit the close-to-hand The Cove restaurant in Maenporth, or head into the nearby harbour town of Falmouth for a wide range of dining options to suit all tastes. Although, award winning fish and chips are simply a must.
Cornish fishing villages, National Trust houses and the golden sands and surfing beaches of the North Coast are all easily accessible by car. The Tate St Ives and the art galleries at Newlyn and Penzance are a great day out if the weather is changeable. Across the waters of the Helford River, explore the Lizard peninsular, or head towards the wild, rugged scenery and near-tropical beaches of Penwith, out towards Land’s End.
