With a name true to the feeling of escape that can be felt when holidaying in the temperate Cornish climate, Le Coin Perdu or ‘The Lost Corner’ is a tucked-away haven high above the harbour in Falmouth.
As the sunrise nudges its way over the Roseland Peninsula and the harbour wakes up, morning light glances the masts and sails that sway across the water. Bring a coffee up and enjoy the sea view from either bedroom, you can always laze just that little while longer when on holiday. Pad downstairs to the open plan living/kitchen area to rustle up breakfast, chatting with your loved ones as you make preparations for the day that stretches out before you.
The smell of the ocean greets you as you open the front door and the promise of adventure in Cornwall awaits. Head to the beach from your base in Falmouth, or zip over to the Helford River for walks along the South West Coast path. Picnic, wild swim, or have a go at stand-up paddleboarding.
For dining out, an abundance of options await, from acclaimed seafood joints to neighbourhood restaurants where you’ll be welcomed like part of the family. Hip coffee shops, galleries and live music abound at almost every turn.
Come the evening, the elevated front garden is almost like a balcony. Sit out and observe as the light fades and the sounds of the harbour quieten to a hush, before you surrender to the call of one of your luxurious beds.

Visitors and residents alike turn to the harbour town of Falmouth for its laid-back feel and sense of community. Here people don’t just live beside the water, their lives play out across it. From chugging across to St Mawes on the harbour ferry for a spot of lunch, to post-dinner dips in the sea, a holiday at Le Coin Perdu will let you live like a local and experience this unique way of life.
Walking through the winding characterful streets, surprises await at every turn. Gaps between houses reveal views that stretch out to the rolling countryside, and the alleyways and opeways reveal some of the past activity that might have taken place in this historic maritime town. With bohemian bars, galleries, theatres, and sophisticated little spots for date night, there’s plenty by the way of culture.
Watch the sun rise or set from the outdoor balcony, or walk along to any one of the open green spaces laid out to meadow that run along Gyllyng Street, where the harbour view can be enjoyed with a lovely picnic nestled amongst the wildflowers to the sounds of the harbour and the smell of the salty Cornish sea before wandering back to your holiday cottage.
Further afield, nowhere in Cornwall is much more than a 45-minute drive away. The sub-tropical Eden Project is within easy reach, or escape the crowds and visit Glendurgan or Trebah Gardens, just a 20 minute drive away at the Helford River.
