Summary

Sat atop a hill, overlooking Helford Passage and the crystalline waters of the Helford River, the generously proportioned Selangor waits to welcome you into its comfortable interior and large garden. During summer the Helford River becomes a haven for families, water lovers, and those wanting to submerge themselves in some serious natural beauty. Here you will find a pristine coast, empty beaches – and the answer to why the appeal of Cornwall is so enduring.

Set upon the hillside on the exclusive Bar Road with a sea view overlooking Helford Passage, Selangor offers families and groups of up to ten the opportunity to experience this exclusive corner of Cornwall from an unrivalled location.

Meander down the steep hill to the beach at Helford Passage (and try not to think of the effort required to get back up). There play in sheltered waters, hire a paddleboard, enjoy an ice cream from the hut – or let the fun stretch into the evening by falling into the adjacent Ferryboat Inn, where delicious, locally produced food is served on a terrace overlooking the beach and water.

The spacious, well-equipped Selangor is furnished to a high standard. Unwind here on the south-facing patio after days spent exploring. Then, when bedtime comes around – and with moonlight glistening on the water’s surface – savour the view from each bedroom one last time as you draw the curtains.

Whether it’s renting boats from Helford Passage to journey to the secret beaches and quays that line the Helford River, or travelling on foot along the South West Coast path, the Helford River is yours to explore. Dining out is a treat at Selangor, with the charming Ferryboat Inn just at the bottom of the hill. At sunset, eat on the terrace with its picture-perfect views of the river. Just a couple of miles away at Maenporth beach you’ll find The Cove Restaurant, now under the ownership of revered chef Michael Caines. In Falmouth you’ll find a thriving restaurant scene. Pay a visit to The Wheelhouse for unbeatable seafood, or seek out Indidog with it’s fantastic views out over the harbour.

The lush subtropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan, just a short stroll away, are oases of tropical pleasure. Or take the family to nearby Potager Garden to enjoy a hearty organic lunch in the greenhouse café. Then play ping-pong or badminton and explore the luscious gardens before spending a few hours relaxing in the sun at a nearby beach. The woodburner at Selangor makes for a cosy spot in the winter, and crisp, refreshing walks along the coast (and dropping into the odd thatched inn along the way) help to make this part of Cornwall a great year-round choice.
