Inspired by Australian surf and coffee culture, brothers Damian and Oliver Lucas-Box first opened Box and Barber above a surf shop in Newquay in 2015. They soon outgrew this space and moved to their Fore Steet location. Their passion for Australian surf culture is reflected in the fresh, acai bowls and speciality coffee served to visitors and locals all year round.
The space is clean, white, fresh, and modern with hints of wood and exposed brick. Surfboards hang on the walls for sale and green plants hang from the ceiling and grow against the walls. The front terrace comes with room for al fresco dining and drinking in the sea air.
Damian and Oliver’s award-winning independent coffeehouse is perfectly situated between the town centre and Fistral Beach, making it the perfect hangout spot for local surfers, and post-morning waves. They strive and are committed to using organic, sustainable and locally sourced ingredients and focus on delivering the goods while creating a cool, casual vibe for everyone to enjoy. Aligning with their values they are proud to offer a range of natural wines and craft beers from small and independent producers. From crisp whites to chilled reds, even fizz, they have you covered.
They champion their acai bowls, which is a delicious berry full of antioxidants. They blend it with other fruit to make a smoothie and then add lots of fresh fruit, chai seeds, cacao nibs, fresh mint, and passion fruit on top – they make for a great way to kick start your day healthily before heading to the nearby beach. The main item on their menu is The Big Breakfast which includes two slices of Cornish smoked back bacon, served with avocado, two eggs, a slice of sourdough bread and a beautifully seasoned, beefsteak tomato.
Their whole team are passionate about the environment so they make sure that nothing leaves the shop that cannot be recycled or composted. As a customer incentive, they offer a 25p discount to anyone using a reusable cup for their coffee and have Keep Cups available to purchase.
