Location and Surrounding Area

Restronguet Creek, a hidden gem on the Cornish coast, captivates with its serene waters and enchanting landscapes. A 5-minute stroll along the wooded coastal path leads to the 13th-century Pandora Inn, where visitors can enjoy a meal on the floating pontoon, or in the cosy bar, while soaking in the creek’s serene beauty. This tranquil estuary, nestled between rolling hills and verdant woodlands, offers a picturesque escape from the bustle of everyday life. The creek’s crystal-clear waters reflect the ever-changing skies, creating a kaleidoscope of colours that mesmerise visitors year-round. Strolling along its banks, one can witness a rich tapestry of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.

For those who crave adventure, Restronguet Creek is a paradise for water sports. Kayaking and paddleboarding provide an intimate way to explore the winding waterways and hidden coves. Sailing enthusiasts can take to the open waters of the Carrick Roads, a renowned sailing destination that stretches out from the creek. The area is also a popular spot for fishing, with its abundant marine life promising a rewarding catch. Whether you’re on the water or casting a line from the shore, the creek offers endless opportunities for aquatic pursuits.

Beyond the water’s edge, the surrounding area brims with charming villages and historic landmarks waiting to be discovered. The nearby village of Mylor Bridge, just over a mile away, offers a taste of local life with its well-stocked general store (including bakery and off-licence), a newsagent/post office, butchers, family run fishmonger and The Lemon Arms pub. Every Saturday morning is a wonderful food barn at Tregew Farm (10 mins drive) providing local organic veg, bakery, seafood, sweet treats, a coffee van and often a DJ, (dog and family friendly).

For a cultural excursion, the harbour town of Falmouth, with its maritime museum and eclectic shops, is just a short drive away, as is Trelissick House and Gardens with a wonderful arts and craft gallery, and the Cathedral City of Truro, known for its stunning architecture and vibrant arts scene. The Eden Project and St Ives are 27 miles in opposite directions.

For those seeking the thrill of the ocean waves, the north coast’s renowned surfing beaches are within easy reach, offering some of the best surf spots in Cornwall. Meanwhile, scenic coastal paths provide endless opportunities for hiking, with breathtaking views at every turn. Whether you’re exploring the rugged coastline or simply unwinding in the peaceful embrace of Restronguet Creek, this idyllic region promises a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it an ideal destination for a quintessential Cornish holiday.

  • Martine - July 2025
My husband and I stayed at Morning Star for a perfect week in July 2025. The holiday started with a real sense of anticipation and excitement as we drove across the small shingle beach at Restronguet Weir, leaving the real world behind to arrive in a place of tranquility and beauty on the other side. This place is so different from the busy bustling harbours of high season Cornwall. Here is silence, romance, and a nostalgic less hectic life. From the beach, (where one evening we joined locals for a refreshing (!) swim), a narrow road leads past a handful of gorgeous waterside cottages to reach a convenient point for luggage transfer to Morning Star, just a short walk further along a creekside path. A thoughtfully provided wheeled trolly made this so easy. The pretty white cottage and its sister property sit in what is probably the best position along this entire stretch of waterfront, immediately opposite Restronguet Point on the other side of the water with the comings and goings of small boats animating the view. You have arrived in a magical place. With no passing cars, the peace and tranquility was instantly relaxing. We could happily have spent the whole week on the sun loungers on the timber deck which hangs over the lush gardens that run right down to the water’s edge and a small private jetty. We didn’t use the BBQ but imagine that on a warm summer evening, there could be no better place to have one. Inside, the spotlessly clean cottage has been recently fully refurbished with remarkable attention to detail. It feels spacious and has been cleverly arranged. The large well equipped kitchen had everything we needed and sitting at the kitchen table for an early morning coffee with the patio doors open to the private well tended garden and with a view to the creek from every window, was a perfect way to start the day. A convenient downstairs cloakroom was useful for bags, coats and walking boots. A separate dining room meant that evening meals could be more than just a kitchen supper, although we chilled and did that too! We recommend the butchers and the fishmonger in nearby (we walked) Mylor Bridge where there is also a useful general store. On lazy days we strolled 4 minutes along the path to Restronguet Quay where the famous thatched 17th century Pandora Inn lived up to its reputation for excellent food (fresh caught fish of the day was superb). Sitting on the pontoon there surrounded by the sailing community as the sun sets is very special, and when it got a little chilly, returning to the cosy living room at the cottage was the perfect place to snuggle up at the end of the day. I can imagine that lighting the wood burner on an Autumn evening and settling down there would be bliss. The cottage style bedrooms are all good twin/doubles with large comfortable beds, crisp linen, and, vital for me, comfortable pillows! The en-suite and main upstairs bathroom were both “as new’ with powerful and spacious showers. After long walks and sea air we slept like logs. If you are looking for a magical romantic escape, for peace and tranquility but convenient access to amenities, and like us, you want things just right, I cannot recommend Morning Star highly enough. We would definitely return.
